Healing & Hope

A Sanctuary of Healing: Al Ahli Arab Hospital Reopens in Gaza City

In a region where conflict has brought immense suffering to all people, a beacon of hope has emerged with the reopening of Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City. Managed by the Diocese of Jerusalem, the hospital's resurgence is a testament to the universal human commitment to save lives, regardless of the surrounding turmoil.

On Thursday, 11th July, Al Ahli Arab Hospital resumed its vital mission. Despite the hazardous conditions that have impacted civilians across the region, the hospital staff demonstrated remarkable dedication. Many returned to their duties to ensure that the fundamental right to medical care is preserved for the vulnerable.

The reopening was met with immediate need; eight surgeries were successfully performed on the first day alone. This underscores the hospital's essential role in providing humanitarian relief and its commitment to the sanctity of life—a value shared across our diverse faith traditions.

The Diocese of Jerusalem has emphasized that their mission is one of healing and reconciliation. By serving as a sanctuary for the sick, the hospital aims to be a source of stability in the broader Middle East. We recognize that true peace can only be built when the humanity and safety of all neighbors—Palestinians and Israelis alike—are honored and protected.

Our Prayer for Peace

O God of all hope and peace, we bring to you the needs of our broken and hurting world.

Our hearts are heavy for all lives lost and families torn apart by grief in Israel and Palestine. We pray for an end to violence and warfare so that the challenging work of rebuilding and reconciliation may begin.

Help us, O Lord, to affirm our common humanity so that across our differences we may work together for justice and lasting peace. Amen.
