Response to the Draft National Care and Support Strategy 2023

Improved Safeguards for LGBT+ Professionals and People

We recently submitted feedback to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet regarding the Draft National Care and Support Strategy 2023. Our submission emphasizes the importance of better safeguards for LGBT+ individuals accessing care services.

We expressed concern about the discrimination faced by LGBT+ individuals in care settings, particularly within sectors operated by religious organizations. It is crucial that the final strategy addresses these concerns by implementing detailed measures that ensure equal treatment and support for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

In our pursuit of inclusivity, we draw inspiration from Galatians 3:28: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." This verse reminds us of God's love for every person and encourages us to break down barriers and embrace the diverse identities of those around us.

As a church, we believe in fostering an inclusive environment that reflects God's love for all people. By advocating for improved safeguards and embracing diversity, we can work together to create care services that genuinely serve and support everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Let us continue our journey towards embracing inclusion and supporting LGBT+ individuals in care services. By aligning our actions with the teachings of love and acceptance found in the Bible, we can build a caring community that honors the inherent dignity and worth of every person. Together, let's strive for a future where care services are truly inclusive and welcoming to all.
