Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC) Celebrates 55 Years Of Inclusivity

This Friday, on October 6th, the United Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC) marks an incredible milestone - 55 years of spreading love, inclusivity, and the transformative message of Jesus. Founded by Rev Elder Troy Perry, this remarkable journey began with just 12 people and has grown into a global movement with churches in 37 countries.

Troy Perry's story is a testament to the power of resilience and faith. Having experienced rejection from both Baptist and Pentecostal churches due to his sexual orientation, Perry held the first-ever service for LGBTI+ individuals in Los Angeles on October 6, 1968, with just a dozen attendees. Today, the UFMCC continues to stand as a vanguard for inclusivity, actively opposing discrimination based on gender, sexuality, race, and socioeconomic status.

As we celebrate 55 years of UFMCC's ministry, we also pray for wisdom and compassion among all Australians as they consider the referendum on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament. Let us extend our gratitude to Rev Elder Troy Perry and offer our support to Rev Elder Cecila Eggleston and the UFMCC leadership as they guide the Church into the future.
