Selfless Living: Finding True Life by Losing It
Jesus’ words in Matthew 10:39 — “Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it”—invite us to a profound truth about how to live. At first, it sounds like a paradox, but it reveals a deep spiritual reality: living selfishly, focused on ourselves, ultimately leads to loss—loss of true purpose and fulfillment. In contrast, living selflessly, putting others first, leads to discovering our real life and deepest satisfaction.
Consider Jesus Himself. Though divine, He chose to become human, suffer, and die out of pure love. His sacrifice was the ultimate act of self-giving, fulfilling His very nature as Love. This shows us that true fulfillment comes not from seeking our own gain but from loving others sacrificially.
Sin and selfishness cloud our vision, tempting us to prioritize ourselves and lose sight of what truly matters. But when we embrace the call to selfless love, imitating Jesus’ perfect sacrifice, we find our true identity and purpose.
Today, reflect on your own life. Are you willing to lose yourself for Christ’s sake? In doing so, you will find the fullness of life and become who you were created to be.
