This Week's Lectionary Readings

  • Jeremiah 23:1-6

This passage speaks of God gathering the scattered and marginalized, promising to raise up righteous shepherds who will care for all people, especially those who are vulnerable and oppressed.

Contemplative Practice: Imagine yourself as one of the lost sheep, feeling the warmth of the shepherd's presence guiding you back to safety and belonging.

    ✝︎
  • Luke 1:68-79

Zechariah's song of praise celebrates God's faithfulness in fulfilling promises of liberation and salvation, embodying hope for a future where all are welcomed and included.

Contemplative Practice: Reflect on what it means to be a voice crying out in the wilderness, proclaiming a message of liberation and radical inclusion for all marginalized communities.

    ✝︎
  • Psalm 46

This psalm offers comfort and assurance in the midst of chaos, reminding us that God is our refuge and strength, a present help in times of trouble, inviting all to find peace and belonging in God's presence.

Contemplative Practice: Visualize yourself standing by the still waters, feeling the calming presence of God surrounding you, offering you rest and peace in the midst of life's storms.

    ✝︎
  • Colossians 1:11-20

Paul's hymn to Christ declares the cosmic redemption and reconciliation accomplished through Christ's death and resurrection, emphasizing the inclusive and all-encompassing love of God for all creation.

Contemplative Practice: Meditate on the image of Christ as the one who holds all things together, embracing the diversity and unity of creation, affirming the inherent worth and dignity of all beings.

    ✝︎
  • Luke 23:33-43

In the crucifixion scene, Jesus extends grace and acceptance to the criminal hanging beside him, demonstrating radical hospitality and inclusion even in the moment of his own suffering and death.

Contemplative Practice: Place yourself in the shoes of the repentant criminal, experiencing the overwhelming love and acceptance of Jesus, finding forgiveness and belonging in his presence.

Queer Theology Reflection

These readings remind us that God's love and grace are extended to all, especially to those who have been marginalized and excluded. As a congregation, we are called to embody the radical hospitality and inclusion demonstrated by Jesus, welcoming all people into our community with open arms and affirming the sacred worth of every individual.

Sermon Preview (pastoral focus)

This Sunday, we will focus on the theme of radical inclusion and belonging, exploring how we can create a sanctuary where all feel welcomed and affirmed. As a sacred practice, we will engage in a time of communal prayer, lifting up the voices of the marginalized and committing to stand in solidarity with all who seek refuge and acceptance.

A Prayer

God of surprising welcome, meet us at the margins and make their stories holy among us. Teach us to read with tenderness, to honour strange joys, and to hold wounds with reverence. Breathe your courage into our worship and our care. Amen.

We seek to practice welcome and dignity for all folk as part of our ministry. Read, reflect, and join us each Friday.

Our site uses the Revised Common Lectionary for scripture readings. For more information about the Lectionary and how we use it, please visit this page.
