The Cloud of Witnesses
Aelred of Hexham was an English Cistercian monk and abbot of the monastery of Rievaulx. He is known for his writings on spirituality, particularly his treatise 'Spiritual Friendship'. Aelred emphasized the importance of love and community in the Christian life, and his teachings continue to inspire Christians to this day.
Benedict Biscop was an Anglo-Saxon monk and scholar who founded the monasteries of Wearmouth and Jarrow. He was a key figure in the spread of Christianity and learning in Northumbria, introducing Roman liturgy and architecture to the region. Benedict's dedication to scholarship and education laid the foundation for future generations of scholars and monks.
🙏 Take time to reflect on how you can incorporate the virtues of love, community, and scholarship into your daily life. Consider reaching out to someone in need, dedicating time to study and learning, or joining a community or group that aligns with your values.
