Faithful Witnesses of Christ

13 January 2026

Today we remember the lives and teachings of three faithful witnesses of Christ. Hilary, Bishop of Poitiers, Kentigern, Missionary Bishop in Strathclyde and Cumbria, and George Fox, Founder of the Society of Friends. Each of them lived out their faith in unique ways, teaching and spreading the Gospel message to those around them. They remind us of the importance of standing firm in our beliefs and sharing the love of Christ with others.

Today's Collect

"Heavenly Father, we thank you for the example of Hilary, Kentigern, and George Fox. May their dedication to you inspire us to live out our faith boldly and to share your love with those around us. Help us to be faithful witnesses of Christ in all that we do. Amen."

Hilary, Bishop of Poitiers

Hilary of Poitiers, also known as Hilary the Great, was a bishop of the Catholic Church. He was a staunch defender of orthodoxy against the Arian heresy, and is known for his writings on the Trinity.

Kentigern (Mungo)

Kentigern, also known as Mungo, was a missionary bishop in Strathclyde and Cumbria. He is the patron saint of Glasgow, where he founded a monastery. Kentigern was known for his miracles and his dedication to spreading the Gospel.

George Fox

George Fox was the founder of the Society of Friends, also known as the Quakers. He was a radical preacher who emphasized the importance of the inner light of Christ in each individual. Fox faced persecution for his beliefs, but his teachings laid the foundation for the Quaker movement.

🙏 Reflect on how you can be a faithful witness of Christ in your daily life, following the examples of Hilary, Kentigern, and George Fox.
