Subduing the Soul Together
26 February 2026
"But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified."
— 1 Corinthians 9:27
The Reflection
Fasting has been a profound spiritual discipline for centuries, allowing individuals to draw closer to the Holy Spirit. In today's fast-paced world, ancient practices can be revitalized through modern concepts such as digital and consumerism fasting. By consciously releasing our grip on distractions and material possessions, we refine our focus on God. Embracing fasting in our daily activities not only nurtures our spiritual growth but also aligns our hearts with deeper appreciation for the simple blessings in life. As we subdue our souls, we create space for the transformative work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Fasting Guidance
- Digital Fasting: Commit to a week without social media and screens, allowing for deeper reflection.
- Consumerism Fasting: Resist the urge to make unnecessary purchases for the duration of Lent.
- Gratitude-Focused Fasting: Start a daily gratitude journal to shift your focus from entitlement to appreciation.
- Movement Fasting: Set a goal to walk or exercise daily, using that time for prayer or meditation.
- Modified Eating: Reduce luxuries in your diet, such as sweets or processed foods, but don't completely fast.
A Prayer for Surrender
"Dear God, as I embark on this journey of fasting, help me to detach from my comforts and subdue my soul. Teach me to seek You above all else and to find solace in simplicity. May I grow in gratitude and awareness of Your presence. Strengthen me, Lord, as I surrender my desires to You. Amen."
Amen.
May your sacrifice lead to His presence.
