Abounding in Hope: Monday Evening Prayer

FEBRUARY 9, 2026

"May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing so that by the power of the Holy Spirit we may abound in hope."

— Romans 15:13

As we gather this Monday evening, we transition from the demands of the day into the shelter of the Most High. The scriptures remind us tonight that God is our refuge and stronghold—a shield against the terrors of the night and the arrows of the day. Whether we are reflecting on the quiet faithfulness of Rebekah at the well or the profound strength of Jesus in the wilderness, we see a consistent thread: God provides for those who trust in Him. Even in our own deserts and moments of testing, the Holy Spirit leads us toward a hope that does not disappoint.

This hope is not a passive wish, but a transformative power that bestows beauty for ashes and the oil of gladness for mourning. As we look toward the night, we take comfort in the promise that His angels are commanded to keep us in all our ways. We are invited to cast off the works of darkness and live as children of God, heirs to a glory that far outweighs our present sufferings. Let us rest in the assurance that the one who began a good work in us is faithful to complete it, filling our hearts with peace as we close our eyes in faith.

The Benediction

Father of lights, receive the prayer and praise we offer You as our evening sacrifice. Lighten our darkness, Lord, and in Your great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of Your only Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Help us to run with perseverance the race set before us, looking always to Jesus. Fill us with Your Spirit, that we may abound in hope. In Jesus' name, Amen.
