David, Patron of Wales
1 March 2026
David's teachings encourage us to live lives of sincerity and dedication. His famous last words, 'Be joyful, keep the faith, and do the little things that you have heard and seen me do,' remind us of the power of small acts of kindness and devotion. In a world often overwhelmed by complexity and chaos, David's life invites us to return to the basics of faith—finding joy in service, strength in faith, and significance in the small acts of everyday life.
The Collect for Today
"Almighty God, who called your servant David to uphold the faith with joy and simplicity, grant that we, inspired by his example, may find joy in the little things, remain steadfast in faith, and spread your love through humble service. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen."
The Cloud of Witnesses
Saint David, known as Dewi Sant, is the patron saint of Wales. He was a Welsh bishop during the 6th century who played a pivotal role in spreading Christianity among the Celtic tribes. Born around the year 500 in the region of Ceredigion, he was reputedly the son of Sant, Prince of Powys. David founded numerous monastic communities and churches in Wales, Brittany, and southwestern England. His principal monastery at Glyn Rhosyn (now St David's) became an influential center of learning and spirituality. His canonization in the 12th century by Pope Callixtus II recognized his foundational role in Welsh Christianity. The feast day of Saint David on March 1st is celebrated with great enthusiasm across Wales, commemorating his contributions to faith and culture.
🙏 Embrace the simplicity and joy in your faith journey today. Take a moment to perform a small act of kindness in the spirit of Saint David.
