Matthias the Apostle

Matthias' life invites us to reflect on our own journeys of discipleship. Being chosen as an apostle meant stepping into a role that required humility, resilience, and a commitment to spreading the Gospel. His story encourages us to embrace the roles we are called to, whether noticed by many or just a few. In our own lives, we can find inspiration in Matthias to faithfully pursue our callings, trusting that God sees and values our contributions, no matter how small they may seem.

"Almighty God, who in the place of Judas chose your faithful servant Matthias to be numbered among the twelve apostles, grant that your Church, being delivered from false apostles, may always be guided and governed by faithful and true pastors; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen."
The Cloud of Witnesses
Matthias the Apostle was chosen by the early Christian community to replace Judas Iscariot after his betrayal of Jesus. His selection is detailed in the Acts of the Apostles, where after prayer and the casting of lots, he was numbered among the Twelve. Although not much is recorded about Matthias in the New Testament, tradition holds that he preached the Gospel in Judea and possibly regions such as Cappadocia or Ethiopia. His life exemplifies steadfast faithfulness and the important, though often unseen, role of those who continue to spread the Christian faith.
